CADET FORCES ADULT VOLUNTEERS

Here's how you can get involved:

CIVILIAN INSTRUCTOR

A Civilian Instructor (CI) is a great way to volunteer with RAFAC if you want to assist with training and activities without wearing a uniform.


  • Assist with cadet training sessions (leadership, aviation, STEM, etc.)
  • Support outdoor activities like fieldcraft, first aid, and adventure training
  • Help organise squadron events and trips
  • Provide men

A Civilian Instructor (CI) is a great way to volunteer with RAFAC if you want to assist with training and activities without wearing a uniform.


  • Assist with cadet training sessions (leadership, aviation, STEM, etc.)
  • Support outdoor activities like fieldcraft, first aid, and adventure training
  • Help organise squadron events and trips
  • Provide mentoring and guidance to cadets
  • Gain qualifications.


  • Minimum 12 hours per month (typically 1-2 evenings per week)


  • Be at least 20 years old
  • Pass background and security checks (DBS clearance required)
  • Complete Adult Volunteer Induction Program (AVIP)

NON-COMMISSIONED OFFICER (NCO)

  • Role: As an NCO, you’ll lead and guide cadets through various training programs and activities.


  • Responsibilities:
    Lead cadet training sessions and activities
    • Provide mentorship and discipline to cadets
    • Assist in planning and organizing squadron events
    • Support senior officers with the day-to-day running of the squadron
    • Develop cadets' leadershi

  • Role: As an NCO, you’ll lead and guide cadets through various training programs and activities.


  • Responsibilities:
    Lead cadet training sessions and activities
    • Provide mentorship and discipline to cadets
    • Assist in planning and organizing squadron events
    • Support senior officers with the day-to-day running of the squadron
    • Develop cadets' leadership skills through structured programs


  • Commitment: Similar to Civilian Instructors, but likely more time-consuming, as you will be involved in both the training and leadership aspects of the squadron.


  • Requirements:
    • Be at least 20 years old
    • Pass background checks
    • Complete NCO-specific training and the Adult Volunteer Induction Program (AVIP)
    • Demonstrate leadership and teamwork skills

COMMISSIONED OFFICERS

  • Role: Commissioned Officers have higher-level responsibilities in overseeing squadron operations, managing staff, and ensuring cadets’ welfare and training.


  • Responsibilities:
    • Supervise and lead the squadron, ensuring it runs smoothly and efficiently
    • Plan and implement the squadron’s activities and training programs
    • Provide mentorship and guid

  • Role: Commissioned Officers have higher-level responsibilities in overseeing squadron operations, managing staff, and ensuring cadets’ welfare and training.


  • Responsibilities:
    • Supervise and lead the squadron, ensuring it runs smoothly and efficiently
    • Plan and implement the squadron’s activities and training programs
    • Provide mentorship and guidance to NCOs and other staff
    • Manage administrative duties, including reporting to higher RAFAC officials
    • Oversee the welfare of cadets and staff members


  • Commitment: Similar to NCOs but with added responsibilities related to squadron management and operations.


  • Requirements:
    • Be at least 20 years old
    • Pass background checks
    • Complete Officer Training and the Adult Volunteer Induction Program (AVIP)
    • Strong leadership and organizational skills, with experience in managing teams or projects

SERVICE INSTRUCTOR

 The Civilian Committee (CivCom) plays an essential role in supporting RAFAC at the local squadron level. As a non-uniformed volunteer group, the CivCom is responsible for overseeing the administrative, financial, and welfare aspects of the squadron. 


  • Purpose: CivCom members ensure the smooth operation of the squadron by helping with the l

  • Purpose: CivCom members ensure the smooth operation of the squadron by helping with the logistical and financial side of things. They assist the squadron staff by providing support in areas like fundraising, welfare, and community relations.


  • Responsibilities:
    Fundraising: Organize events and activities to raise money for cadet training, trips, equipment, and other squadron needs.
    • Financial Management: Help manage the squadron’s budget, ensure proper accounting, and oversee spending.
    • Squadron Welfare: Support the well-being of both cadets and staff, addressing any issues that arise within the squadron.
    • Liaison: Act as a bridge between the squadron, parents, and the wider community. You may engage with local businesses or organizations for support or donations.
    • Event Planning: Assist with the planning of special events, such as squadron anniversaries, presentations, and ceremonial events.
    • General Administration: Help with the paperwork, such as ensuring cadet records are updated or supporting the squadron with various admin tasks.


  • Commitment:
  • Typically involves attending monthly meetings (which can be virtual or in-person) and supporting fundraising or other events.
  • Time commitment varies, but it can be a great option if you want to contribute to RAFAC without committing to weekly sessions.

CHAPLAIN OR EQUIV.

The Chaplain role within the Royal Air Force Air Cadets (RAFAC) is a unique and vital position for those interested in providing spiritual guidance and support to cadets and staff.

  • Purpose: The Chaplain offers pastoral care, spiritual support, and guidance to both cadets and adult staff within the squadron. This role is focused on the well-being of individuals from all backgrounds, helping with personal issues, and providing a moral and ethical framework for the cadets’ development.


  • Responsibilities:
    • Provide spiritual and pastoral care to cadets and staff
    • Lead or assist with religious services, prayers, and ceremonies, if appropriate
    • Offer guidance and counseling on personal and ethical issues
    • Support the welfare and emotional well-being of the cadets and staff
    • Contribute to the overall ethos of the squadron by promoting values such as respect, integrity, and responsibility
    • Act as a confidential support resource for those in need of counselling or spiritual guidance


  • Commitment:
    • The commitment for a Chaplain can vary, but it generally involves attending weekly squadron meetings and participating in key squadron events, such as annual services, remembrance ceremonies, or special activities.
    • Chaplains are also expected to be available to provide emotional and spiritual support to cadets and staff as needed, which may include after-hours or during trips.


Requirement:

  • You must be a qualified minister (or equivalent) in an accredited religious organization, with recognized credentials.
  • Be at least 20 years old.
  • Pass background checks (DBS clearance).
  • Complete the Adult Volunteer Induction Program (AVIP), and any specific training related to the Chaplaincy role.
  • Be able to demonstrate compassion, good communication skills, and the ability to provide guidance in sensitive situations.
